Great article. Socrates is so often cast in the role of hero/martyr. Example, a few years ago, the Public Theater put on an excellent play based on Plato's Last Days of Socrates, where, of course, none of the less flattering stuff appeared. This gives us a much fuller picture of the man. There has been a marked tendency in recent years to silence voices on both the right and left (or those like Julian Assange that defy simple categorization) that are annoying to the powers that be. And that is bad for democracy. Also, not sure if I should be thanking you but you've now forced me to add several more books to my ever-expanding reading list - lol!
